The excuse of many Orthodox Jews in America for not making aliya is that the Israeli government doesn’t have enough respect for their religious neds. They don’t want to move to Israel and work to improve the situation.
Instead, their religious rights are under siege in America (not to mention, increasingly, their physical safety), and they are fighting for their rights in galus, surrounded by millions of goyim who, at best, see them as a nuisance.
If the irony weren’t so tragic it would be funny.
